About CRSC

The Clyde River Steamer Club, known to most enthusiasts as the
CRSC, was formed in 1932 when the river Clyde was full of real steamers - passenger vessels powered by a steam engine - which were the main focus of Club members' interest in that period of history.
At that time, and for the next 30 or so years, the Clyde was full of steam powered ships of all shapes and sizes, many being built for shipowners all over the world. Club members could easily sail regularly to and from many locations.
In those heady days, steamers seemed to be everywhere, and no-one gave much thought to the inevitable "progress" which would see steam ships replaced by motor ships and the number of vessels diminish drastically.
Today the river Clyde has only one real steamer sailing on it - namely the Paddle Steamer Waverley.
The Club has continued to focus on stimulating interest in the steamer fleets which once operated on the Clyde, encouraging research into British coastal passenger shipping and trying to keep up with the many changes which have impacted on our hobby. Today we actively encourage members and friends to sail together on current vessels, wherever they are, to meet together and to talk together about ships past, present and in the future.
