Club Archive

The Club maintains a unique Archive of photographs, artefacts and publications together with items donated by persons who may, or may not, be members of the C.R.S.C.

Some definitions which you may find useful:

What is an Archive?
Collins Dictionary defines it as - a collection of records of or about an Institution, a place where such records are kept or to store documents, data etc in an archive or other repositor.

Further definitions expand our understanding of the role of the keeper of these records.
There are two relevant words defining the keeper – Archivist or Curator.

What is an Archivist?
The dictionary definition is - a person in charge of archives, their collection & cataloguing.

What is a Curator?
The dictionary definition is – administrative head of a museum, art gallery or similar institution.

The Club has a Curator (a co-opted member of Committee).
The person who has been in charge of the Archives, their collection & cataloguing for more than 30 years is Club member Archie MacCallum.

The Curator looks to the Club members to assist with the provision of current material to add to the collection, as they sail around the Clyde, West Coast and Inland Waterways of Scotland. However all donations are welcome.

The Club has a policy for access to and lending items for research or assisting with publications.
